Dr. Yuhanon Mar Chrysostomos serves as the Metropolitan of the Niranam Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Church. He was born on 7th January , 1955, in Kottoor, Kaviyoor, located in the Pathanamthitta District of India. His parents are the late K. V. Yohannan, a former government employee with the Public Works Department and late Aleyamma John, a retired high school teacher. He has three siblings: Mr. K. J. John (retired high school teacher), Mr. Joseph John (Secretary, Co-operative Bank, Kaviyoor), and Mrs. Suni John (high school teacher, MD High School, Kottayam).

Education

He completed his secondary education at NSSHS Kaviyoor and earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree from St. Berchmans College, Changanacherry. His theological studies include a Graduation in Sacred Theology (GST) and a Bachelor of Divinity (BD) from Orthodox Theological Seminary, Kottayam and Serampore University, respectively. He also holds a Master of Theology (MTh) from United Theological College, Bangalore, and a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min) from San Francisco Theological Seminary, San Francisco, USA.

Ordination and Consecration

Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Osthathios ordained him as a Deacon on April 19, 1980, and as a Priest on June 5, 1982. He was elevated to the position of Ramban (Monk) on January 28, 1998 and consecrated as a Metropolitan on March 5, 2005, by His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Mathews II.

Prior to his appointment as Metropolitan of the Niranam Diocese in 2007, Dr Yuhanon Mar Chrysostomos served as the Assistant Metropolitan of the diocese from 2005. Currently he also holds the following positions:
